The Larimer Sedecitych

The Larimer Sedecitych

If a triptych is three images in series, the word coined for a series of 16 would logically start with the latin for ‘sixteen’ = sedecim. Here, then, is the Larimer Sedecitych: a series of 16 paintings created across four seasons from one location. The first painting (top left, below) was done facing West, toward Longs Peak, in the summer of 2020 from the corner of County Road Five + CR32 East in Larimer County, in southeast Fort Collins. The next three were painted from the same spot turning to the north, east and south. That series is the top row of paintings shown below. The second, third, fourth sets were painted in the fall, winter and spring in the same spot, looking to the same four directions. 12 of the sixteen were painted ‘en plein-air,’ in the shade of the lift-back of my Subaru Outback. The four painted in winter were done from photos taken on a single day from that same spot.

The three galleries, below, allow you to 1) view paintings individually, 2) views by direction or compass points, and; 3) views by season.

This location is emblematic of the changing face of Colorado. At this spot, one has a clear view of rapid development to the West and North, agriculture to the East, and suburban housing (and golf) to the South. This is a project borne out of love for my native home as well as a record of our dynamic landscape.
